Dishwasher depth is a critical installation dimension, typically referring to the measurement from the front of the appliance to the back, encompassing both the unit's body and, importantly, the space needed for rear connections. Standard full-size freestanding or built-in dishwashers commonly have a body depth ranging from 60 to 65 centimeters (approximately 23.6 to 25.6 inches), designed to align flush with standard kitchen countertops. However, the total installation depth must account for additional clearance for the water inlet hose, drain hose, and electrical cord, which usually requires an extra 5-10 centimeters behind the appliance. In renovation scenarios or kitchens with shallow cabinets, slimline or compact models with reduced depths become essential. Some models are engineered with depths as shallow as 45-50 centimeters, but this often involves compromises in interior rack design or the use of alternative technologies, such as countertop units with built-in water tanks.
